colin getting serious!
On the 6th August 2022 at the behest of Pete "the Weasel" Dodsley a few Arna regulars were asked to empty their pockets looking for any loose change. The resultant shrapnel amassed to £1.77 and became known collectively as the first "Coins for Colin".
As of 5th February 2024 those initial magic beans have since grown to a rather more substantial £432.46. Hang on a minute ..... over £400 from that little Colin jar that keeps going walkabout in the clubhouse? What crazy alchemy is this?
Well, in the background coins continued to be collected but much more than that in the foreground Pete's magical world of syndicated accy bets began to weave its weird magic. If you want any further
enlightenment as to how this system works....well, you need a spare couple of hours to have a chat with Pete ......and I suggest a strong cup of coffee to help keep you focussed.
All I know is that 18 months or so on Colin is placing bet after bet (most of them not costing him a single penny) and the Arna are therefore in with a chance of making some pretty serious money almost on a daily basis.
I should stress however that in the last 18 months poor old Colin has endured a heck of a lot of bad luck.....suffering constant near misses.....ravaged by what might have beens......robbed by dubious last minute goals ......all of them depriving us of mega, mega bucks.
It's been an absolutely disastrous start to Colin's career.......Yet in spite of all that we still have a figure of £500 looming up on the horizon with hopefully much luckier days ahead.
Arnold Town is not exactly awash with income streams. Certainly not ones with the potential to win us thousands of pounds for so little pain. So we need to start taking Colin a little more seriously. See the picture of jars at the head of this article? That is definitely someone taking Colin seriously....a huge thank you to regular contributor Nick Dodsley!
Everyone else.....kindly empty your pockets....put the fluff back......drop the shrapnel into the Colin Jar.....if its away enjoying another week at the Holland household pass the coins to Pete and he'll look after them.....cherish them.....rub them.....make them grow.
We have a dream.....it involves the Arna faithful gathered round a pub table (not a massive table then).....item one on the agenda.....how shall we spend this £200k that Colin's just won?

A very brief history of the colin end
The Colin End at Arnold Town's Eagle Valley Ground was first named as such in July 2015 following the appearance of a thread on the Arnold Town Supporters Forum which attempted to find a name for the "other" behind the goal end.
The "Oxton Road End" (or possibly the Ox End for short!) had come fairly easily into the Eagle Valley lexicon with Oxton Road being adjacently placed not too far behind it. But suitable names for the "other" end couldn't be agreed upon and we sort of needed one for match report purposes if nothing else.
Hence in July 2015 following a legendary in depth forum discussion the name "Colin" was born.
Since then, depending on the match reporter admittedly, "The Colin End" has slowly made its way into the Eagle Valley landscape culminating in the inaugural "Colin End Day" held at the ground on Saturday 4th February 2023. The day was marked by the appearance of our rather snazzy new "Colin" banner which is basically a "watch this space" statement to the world at large!
Well, we like to think so anyway.

18th september 2023 - by george i think i've found colin....
4th August 2023 - ashland complete their new stand
Ashland Rovers have completed their neat looking stand at their Kingsway Park Ground.
It's a project that shows just what can be achieved on a realistic budget that doesn't have to cost the earth. I would imagine Rovers have done much (if not all) of the construction work themselves...they have also probably sourced the fabrication materials at very reasonable rates. I'm assuming something along those lines because we are told the project has only set them back an extremely modest £1400! Amazing work Ashland! One day Colin.....one day. photo by Ash White |
coins for colin
"Coins For Colin" is a unique fund raising idea basically designed to help keep the "Colin" dream alive and kicking.
The "Colin Jar" is ever present at Eagle Valley and its a home for all those unwanted tiddling little coins which in this day and age are hardly ever used in actual face to face transactions.....1ps, 2ps, 5ps, 10ps, even 20ps if you like. The coinage is put to extremely good speculative use by our resident gambling guru The Weasel and although we've been skirting the "big one" with unerring accuracy Pete has so far managed to turn our "beans" into a rather more magical £140.00 or thereabouts. If you have a spare hour or so he will gladly explain his system which is increasingly giving us bets for free! What's not to like.....empty your pockets into the Colin Jar on your next visit! |
the search for colin
Every now and then we get suggestions (some serious, some not quite so serious) as to what "could be" at the Colin End....which ever category this one falls in I love this "stand" at the Farndon Community Football Club in the Chester area.
